The Kite Hometown of China
“Ganoderma” kite
“There is a city famous for kites in Yangjiang in the south, Weifang in the north.” Yangjiang kite has a history of more than 1400 years. When the Double Ninth Festival is coming in autumn every year, there are many beautiful kites flying in the blue sky and this time is a celebratory festival for citizens in Yangjiang. In 1991, Yangjiang built the first kite flying field-Southland Kite Arena in China. This kite flying field is situated at Mandarin Duck Lake Park, occupies 120,000 square meters and can accommodate 300,000 people to fly kites there, which is the largest kite flying field in China now. Yangjiang was named “The kite hometown of Guangdong province” by Guangdong Gym Association in 1991 and was named “The kite hometown of China” by Chinese Kite Association in July, 1993.
Yangjiang kite has a variety of kinds, such as dragon-shaped、board-shaped, soft wing-shaped, hard wing-shaped, tube-shaped, bunch-shaped kites and so on. This kite not only has a good flying effect, but also has good unity of form and spirit. It has high practical value, visual value and value of collection. “Ganoderma” kite is named “one of ten unique skills in the world”, “ten feet” kite has a length of more than 100 meters. There is a kite repository in Mandarin Duck Lake Park in Yangjiang now.
